Dr. Z was back again for a giant deer and downed one on the first night of his hunt. Doc didn’t think he top last year’s hunt, but did just that by taking a monstrous whitetail. The buck had 36 points, a 194″ typical frame, and a 290 1/8″ gross SCI score. The buck had a ton of mass as well and weighed in at 295 pounds. Doc called me this summer and told me that he wanted to shoot a big typical. When this buck came out, so did the gun and the idea of shooting a typical whitetail!

October 20th, 2010Little Viking takes down Big Elk
October 19th, 2010Pam Wuertz, of Prescott, AZ, and Dr. Z’s girlyfriend shot a beautiful 6 x 6 elk with one shot from her 350 Remington. A perfect shot ensured a quick kill. After he went down, a high pitched squeal from a happy hunter is all that could be heard, through my ear plugs. Pam earns “Most Excited Hunter of the Year” award for the second year in a row. We couldn’t be happier for her as it couldn’t happen to a sweeter gal.
Thanks Pam!
13 year old Alaskan smokes big deer
October 5th, 2010Tyler Foster, a 13 year old from Eagle River, Alaska, shot a terrific deer this morning. A truly great trophy for anyone, this buck scored 180 6/8″. Tyler’s dad, Michael, bought our donated hunt at the Alaska Chapter of the SCI club this spring. Tyler took him down with a 6mm on the second day of the hunt. Michael’s dad, Marshall, came along as well.

October 2nd, 2010Cull Hunts
September 27th, 2010So far we have taken quite a few cull deer and I am sorry to say that I have not been good with my camera! I usually like to get a picture of every deer taken, but this year has been a little hectic. Below are just a few of the bucks we have taken on the Cull Hunts. Thanks to all who have come and we look forward to those guys that will be coming in the next few weeks.
New Record Deer shot!
September 27th, 2010Bruce Haerter decided late this season to come down and hunt with us. Thank goodness he did come as he shot the best deer we have ever killed at East Fork!
The buck was a giant 6×6 that gross scored 257″! His typical frame was 207″. This is Bruce’s 7th year coming to the ranch and we wanted to say congratulations to Bruce!

December 28th, 2009The East Fork Family was deeply saddened by the news of our most influential and fun-loving hunter’s death on Dec. 23rd. Jerry was a great man who always had a good additude and was always cracking a joke. He always had a sarcastic tone that worked well with our family to say the least. His influence on our ranch will always be felt as he attributed to at least 17 hunters coming to our ranch over the last 3 years, many of whom are annual guests and the list is growing. I met Jerry at the Dallas Safari Club and we hit it off right away. I guided him and heard nothing but complaints about how I was an inept guide and didn’t take him to the best spots- all in good fun, he was just messing with me! I grew to be friends with Jerry and am greatly saddened to have lost that friend.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jerry’s wife and family. You will be missed.
2009-2010 Hunt Special
December 20th, 20092 Cull Bucks, 2 Does … $2000.00
This hunt is for the late season this year. A cull buck is a buck that needs to be taken out of the herd due to age and size. These bucks can be up to 139″ but will typically be in the 110-130″ range. When these bucks step out on a cull hunt, there is not a debate on shooting.
The hunter in a culling situation is there to help the ranch manage the herd while getting a lot of shooting in. All meals and lodging are provided for this two day, three night package that is fully guided.
