Our preserve has everything a deer hunter dreams of- giant deer and great scenery. The layout of our land and the sheer size of the preserve offers hunters the opportunity to see bucks that have had a chance to achieve something that most deer don’t get in the average woods of North America- maturity. The average whitetail in Missouri is harvested when he is a mere 1.5 years old. Now, through a management effort by the Conservation Department, the average age of harvest is increasing. The state has gone to antler restriction requirements of at least 4 points on one side of the deer.
With the preserve, we have the ability to not only harvest does to reduce the overall number of animals, but to introduce genetics from our breeding program to enhance the overall size of the trophies in the preserve. Through select breeding and releasing of bred does and buck fawns to the preserve, we are changing the genetic makeup of the herd and drastically improving the overall health and size of the bucks in the herd.
Primarily we hunt out of enclosed and elevated blinds over food sources. Occasionally during the rut we will rattle bucks in and be sitting in ground blinds or simply on the ground. This provides an exciting hunt and allows our hunters to see bucks charging in looking for a fight.
The Preserve is a managed herd that is not influenced by neighboring farms shooting young deer. It gives deer a chance to act like whitetails without being pressured by hunters. Our preserve is 1,000 acres and provides the hunter with an opportunity to see mature deer bigger than he or she has ever seen. Come try our Preserve, you won’t be disappointed!
